Is Holistic Health Islamic?
…Excellent Health Encompasses More than Just the Body
Islam Has a Rich History of Cultivating Mind/Body/Spirit – or Holistic Health
The idea that our emotions, spiritual state, stress level, environment and relationships have a profound impact on bodily health is a recognized fact in Islam from the Prophet’s time (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) – up to the present day.
The illustrious scholar Ibn Al -Qayyim (may Allah be pleased with him), was famously called the “Heart Doctor”, due to not only being a skilled physician, but espousing the belief that the body cannot be strong and fortified, unless the heart is also tended to and healed.
This is such a strong tenant in Islam, that there is an entire works by Ibn Al – Qayyim called “Medicine of the Prophet” and Ad Daa’ wa Ad -Dawaa (The Sickness and the Cure), which bring together numerous points of benefit on healing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aliments. InshaAllah, we plan to present many of these points in the coming months in order to bring more attention to this treasure trove of knowledge.
Alhamdulillah (All Praise is for Allah), we have truly been given the ability to heal our selves on every level, by His permission. I am happy if I can have even a small part in helping you realize a new level of health, spiritual wellness and longevity, inshaAllah.
